The Broome County Public Library invites area residents to a Reading Between the Lines book discussion series entitled “The First Frontier: New York State and American Expansion 1775-1890.” Participants in this series will read works of non-fiction and literature that will then be discussed within a historical context in a group led by the humanities scholar Dr. Timothy P. Bridgman. The books will be supplied by the program at no cost to participants. The Reading Between the Lines Series is funded by a grant from the New York Council for the Humanities, and it is designed to promote lively, informed discussion about humanities themes and to strengthen the relationship between the humanities and the general public. Registration is required. For more information, or to register, please call the Information Services Department at 607-778-6451.
During this session, discussion will be centered around the book Wedding of the Waters: the Erie Canal and the Making of a Great Nation by Peter L. Bernstein.
