Boise, ID (October 11, 2011)―Stevens-Henager College announced today the kickoff of the Reach Out and Read book drive. The college is once again volunteering with St. Alphonsus’ Mission Department and the nonprofit Reach Out and Read to collect children’s books. This is the second year Stevens-Henager College has participated in the drive. The first year the college’s drive collected over 3,000 children’s books.

There are two locations where community members can donate:

Boise Campus
1444 South Entertainment Avenue
Boise, ID, 83709

Nampa Satellite Location
16819 N. Marketplace Boulevard
Nampa, ID 83687

Stevens-Henager College is asking that all donated books be age appropriate and aimed at preschool-aged children or younger. The books will be donated to four Boise-area pediatric clinics, and are intended to help children enter kindergarten better prepared to succeed. Reach Out and Read is a national nonprofit organization that promotes early literacy and school readiness in pediatric exam rooms nationwide by giving new books to children and advice to parents about the importance of reading aloud. Nationally, Reach Out and Read serves 3.9 million children and their families at 4,600 locations.

“Stevens-Henager College is proud to support Reach Out and Read. Instilling the value of reading and education in children at an early age is incredibly important. Our students are pursuing their degrees in order to create better lives for themselves and their families, and through this program we are helping disadvantaged children in the Boise area do the same,” said Shane Reeder, regional director at Stevens-Henager College, Idaho. “By collecting books for Reach Out and Read, we can help more children get on the path to educational success at an earlier age.”

Stevens-Henager College will collect books until Friday, October 28, 2011.
