Ray Brown 80th Birthday Salute!
With Marlena Shaw, Benny Green, John Clayton and Jeff Hamilton
This all-star band, assembled by Yoshi's Artistic Director, Peter Williams, gets together for an exclusive four day engagement to salute the legendary jazz bassist Ray Brown. Brown was perhaps the foremost bassist of postwar jazz. He consistently displayed excellent taste coupled with virtuoso technique and the utmost professionalism while backing musicians ranging from Charlie Parker to Frank Sinatra. After an extraordinary 55-year career, bassist Ray Brown passed away on the evening of July 2. Getting together on stage to salute what would have been his 80th birthday are several incredibly talented musicians. On vocals will be the versatile and charismatic Marlena Shaw. Joining Ms. Shaw will be Bay Area favorite, Benny Green on piano, as well as the multi-talented bassist, John Clayton and drummer Jeff Hamilton, who have both been on tour with Diana Krall.
