From the NYT:
This is a restaurant with philosophies: about digestion, about responsible living. The menu makes that clear. It promises, on its cover, "handcrafted flavors that rejuvenate the body, mind and planet." And the palate? Well, Pure Food and Wine does its resourceful, righteous best. But when all meat, dairy products, flour and refined sugar are banished from the kitchen, in which nothing can be subjected to temperatures above 118 degrees, the road to culinary bliss is a rocky one. Pure Food has a serious pedigree and big ambitions: The moneyman behind it is Jeffrey Chodorow and one of its chefs is Matthew Kenney [Note: he's no longer there]. But no matter how brilliant their colors or creative their shapes, most of the dishes were all essentially salads masquerading as something else. (And they don't serve coffee.) -- Frank Bruni
