Ravi Coltrane is a critically acclaimed saxophonist, bandleader, composer, producer and founder of the independent record company, RKM Music. Born in Long Island, New York in 1965, Coltrane is the second son of John and Alice Coltrane, named after Indian sitar legend Ravi Shankar. Since 1991, when he joined the band of Elvin Jones--his father's legendary drummer--Coltrane has diligently forged an prominent career as a live performer, recording artist and producer, as well as an impressive list of credits and accomplishments. He's performed with a number of today's top jazz and pop artists, including McCoy Tyner, Carlos Santana, Herbie Hancock, Chick Corea, Branford Marsalis and Cindy Blackman, making well over 40 recordings as a sideman. He made his recording debut as a leader with 1998's 'Moving Pictures' and has released a series of critically acclaimed albums, including the Grammy-nominated 'In Flux' (2005) and his most recent recording as a leader, 2009's 'Blending Times.'
