The National Editor of the Washington Post Rajiv Chandrasekaran will offer a behind-the-scenes account of the struggle between President Obama and the military to reconstruct Afghanistan. Chandrasekaran will describe the disillusioned diplomats, frustrated soldiers, and headstrong officers that have come to define the process of pumping American money and soldiers into Afghan nation-building. He will share his first-hand account of one of the most complex events of the 21st century.
As the National Editor of The Washington Post and a political pundit for CNN, MSNBC and National Public Radio, Chandrasekaran is one of the world’s foremost reporters on the war and nation-building efforts in Iraq and Afghanistan. Before this, Chandrasekaran headed The Post's Continuous News department, which reports and edits breaking news stories for washingtonpost.com. From April 2003 to October 2004, he was The Post's bureau chief in Baghdad, where he was responsible for covering the American occupation of Iraq and supervising a team of Post correspondents. Chandrasekaran lived in Baghdad for much of the six months before the war, reporting on the United Nations weapons-inspections process and the build-up to the conflict.
