The mission of Community Boating Inc. is the advancement of sailing for all by minimizing economic and physical obstacles to sailing. In addition, CBI enhances the greater Boston community by using sailing as a vehicle to empower its members to develop independence and self-confidence, improve communication, foster teamwork, and acquire a deeper understanding of community spirit and the power of volunteerism.
As a private not-for-profit 501(c)3 corporation, Community Boating relies largely on donations to support its' mission of "sailing for all". The Raise the Sails Gala is one of CBI's largest fundraising events which not only raises money to support low-cost sailing programming, but also raises awareness about the value of affordable recreation for all. CBI's Junior Program typically serves over 2,000 members between the ages of 10-18 from 30 towns in the greater Boston area. The Universal Access Program aims to provide sailing for individuals with various disabilities or those who may need special attention or assistance. This past season, the Junior Program at Community Boating sponsored 700 sailors between the ages of 10 and 18 from low income families. The Universal Access Program had over 1,400 appointments.
