The Rail Readers Book Club meets at the Las Cruces Railroad Museum on the 2nd Wednesday of each month at 11:00 am. On May 12 we will discuss “Murder on the Ballarat Train,” written by Kerry Greenwood.
Waking to the smell of chloroform, The Honourable Miss Phryne Fisher works quickly to save the other train passengers by shooting out a window. After assessing the damage, one passenger is discovered to be missing and murder is suspected. Questioning a range of suspects, Phryne discovers one with a good motive but a better alibi. When Phryne begins investigating, she is sidetracked by the appearance of “Jane”, a young girl who has lost her memory. Trying to recover Jane’s memory, Phryne turns to black magic and discovers that Jane was a witness to the murder. Only quick thinking allows her to put the pieces together and prevent another murder.
