Vibe calls him “the most gifted tenor in r&b,” and Pop Matters points to him as “a superior illustration of how soul music has evolved in the 21st century.” Rahsaan Patterson is all that and more: a Renaissance man with an extensive list of accomplishments and honors as a singer, songwriter, producer, and actor. Named after saxophonist Rahsaan Roland Kirk, and raised in Harlem, where music and the Pentecostal faith helped shape him, Patterson and his family relocated to California, where young Rahsaan began a television career (notably KIDS Incorporated). He segued into songwriting, then made his self-titled solo debut in 1997. His latest CD, Wines & Spirits, finds the adventurous Patterson weaving ambient sound, rock, jazz, hip-hop, and gospel into his distinctive and soulful musical brew.
