Race in Richmond’s History April 4, 2012

Join us for a panel discussion of experts who share their personal experiences growing up in Richmond, their work in race relations and the struggle for Civil Rights, the history of race including how and why race has been manipulated in US history, how race has been socially constructed to convey or deny power and the impact of race on Virginia.

The panel features Renee Hill, co-founder and former co-director, Institute for the Study of Race Relations, Virginia State University and daughter-in-law of the late Civil Rights lawyer Oliver W. Hill, Maureen Elgersman Lee, Executive Director, Black History Museum and Cultural Center of Virginia, Tom Chewning, Retired Executive Vice President and CFO, Dominion Resources and Mel Ely, William Kenan Professor of the Humanities, The College of William and Mary.
