RAC & The Knocks April 12, 2013

In a sonic culture where so many remixes are aggressively chopped and screwed versions of their former, nicer selves, the spunky reinterpretations of Remix Artist Collective are a breath of fresh air. That is to say that RAC's current members André Allen Anjos, Andrew Maury and Karl Kling keep things light and utterly indie with their inventive and perpetually joyful reimaginings of hits popular and less so by artists including Foster the People, Ra Ra Riot and Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros. (The RAC version of the Zeros' "Home" is a masterwork.) With last year's standout pop funk single "Hollywood" (a collaboration with Penguin Prison), RAC proved itself to be as proficient with original material as the collective is with other people's jams. This show at Loyola Marymount's Derby Dance mini-fest is likely to be enough of a blissed out dance party singalong session that folks in attendance won't think twice about what they might be missing at that other thing happening out in the desert. — By Katie Bain
