Grab your Mardi Gras beads and mask and head for Puggerfest 2011 on Saturday, Oct. 1, from 10a to 4p at Stars and Stripes Park in Oklahoma City. Stars and Stripes Park is located at 7398 N. Portland, just north of 63 Street.
This year’s theme is Mardi Gras Madness. A drawing for the second annual King and Queen of Puggerfest will result in each winner receiving a gift basket with a retail value of over $250. You can enter as many times as you like. Entry tickets will be $1 each or 6 for $5.

Puggerfest is open to the public and admission is $5 for adults and children under the age of 5 are admitted free.  All proceeds will benefit Homeward Bound Pug Rescue and Adoption of Oklahoma.

Homeward Bound Pug Rescue was founded in 2003 by Gail Tucker of Oklahoma City.   "Our mission is to place pugs that have been surrendered, abandoned or abused into loving, caring forever homes. We are an all volunteer, not for profit organization dedicated to pugs, which we frequently rescue from kill shelters.  We have placed close to 2000 pugs since Homeward Bound opened," said Tucker.

Puggerfest 2011 will again feature Pam Case, well-known animal communicator who can find out ‘what your pet is really thinking’. Fifteen-minute sessions, each $20, will be scheduled prior to and on the day of Puggerfest allowing one pug per session.

Sessions with Ms. Case are limited and appointments can be prescheduled by emailing puglvnfool@new.rr.com or visiting www.pamcase.blogspot.com.

This year’s activities include Costume Contests, Best Trick, Best Kisser, Curliest Tail, and more. Additional prizes will be given for Best Group in Costume and Best Mardi Gras Costume.

After last year’s success, the second annual Pug Races will be held again and space is limited for this exciting event. Early sign up is recommended.

There will be a large silent auction of numerous pug and dog-related items and more, a coloring contest, face painting, mask decorating and bandana making for the kids. Lunch will also be available for purchase.  Homeward Bound is still graciously accepting donations of new items for the auction.

Puggerfest will be raffling off an Acer Laptop, an iPad and a Kindle.  Raffle tickets cost $5 each or 6 for $25.  The drawing will be held during Puggerfest, but you need not be present to win. Raffle tickets can be purchased at the event or in advance by check or money order made out to Homeward Bound Pug Rescue, 1702 Vanessa Drive, Norman, OK 73071.

The event is held in a fenced in area where the pugs and everyone can play. All dogs attending must be fully vaccinated and leashed. No puppies under 5 months of age admitted unless held or females in heat.

Everyone is encouraged to attend and bring chairs, cameras, pugs and lots of money!

The 2011 Puggerfest t-shirts are available for purchase at the event or online for $20. There is an additional shipping fee of $4.00. Check the website for details.

Stars and Stripes Park is located on the south side of Lake Hefner.  Enter by going north at the corner of Portland and Lake Hefner Drive.

Puggerfest will provide a fun day for all and help out a local rescue at the same time.
