Public Art: A National Perspective November 8, 2007

The City of Austin's Art in Public Places (AIPP) program announces a free public art event entitled Public Art: A National Perspective, to take place from 7 - 9 p.m. on November 8, 2007, at the Boyd Vance Theatre, at 1161 Angelina St. This Public Art Forum will provide an opportunity to discover public artwork from around the country, hear national viewpoints on public art, and share insights about what directions Austin may take with its own collection. The event is free, and the public is encouraged to attend.

The Forum will feature notable national and local public art authorities, including: Edward Uhlir, Executive Director of Chicago's Millennium Park, Kurt Perschke, Artist and Creator, RedBall Project, and Sue Graze, Director, Arthouse at the Jones Center.

The program will feature a presentation of images and panel discussion by Edward Uhlir and Kurt Perschke. The discussion will focus on trends and developments in public art, both nationally and locally, including public-private partnerships, artwork as icon, and the contributions of public artists to economic growth and identity. Arthouse Director, Sue Graze, will serve as moderator for the panel discussion.
