Portland State University’s Literary Arts Council works to provide its students and the local community the opportunity to hear and meet authors of various literary genres such as poetry, literary non-fiction and literary fiction. The literary readings and lectures are free, accessible, and promote an intimate setting for students to talk with regionally and nationally known writers. Dan Kaplan is the author of Bill’s Formal Complaint (The National Poetry Review Press, 2008) and the bilingual chapbook SKIN (Red Hydra Press, 2005). His work has appeared in Denver Quarterly, Barrow Street, POOL, Meridian, Quarterly West, Indiana Review, the Norton anthology Flash Fiction Forward, and elsewhere. He teaches at Portland State University and lives in Portland, Oregon.
