Jose Medellin is scheduled for execution on August 5, 2008.
U.S. Attorney General Michael Mukasey and Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice have written Governor Perry asking him to stop the execution of Jose Medellin on Aug 5 in order to protect Americans abroad. They join state Senator Rodney Ellis, who has also asked Perry to stop the execution.

Come to the Governor's Mansion in Austin or one of the protests sites in the list of cities below to protest the Texas death penalty every time there is a scheduled execution.
Statewide Execution Vigils
Huntsville - Corner of 12th Street and Avenue I (in front of the Walls Unit) at 5:00 p.m.
Austin - At the Governor's Mansion on the Lavaca St. side between 10th and 11th St. from 5:30 to 6:30 PM.
Beaumont - Diocese of Beaumont, Diocesan Pastoral Office, 703 Archie St. @ 4:00 p.m. on the day of an execution.
College Station - 5:30 to 6 PM, east of Texas A &M campus at the corner of Walton and Texas Ave. across the street from the main entrance.
Corpus Christi - at 6 PM in front of Incarnate Word Convent at 2910 Alameda Street
Dallas - 5:30 pm, at the SMU Women's Center, 3116 Fondren Drive
Houston - call Burnham Terrell, 713/921-0948 for location.
Lewisville - St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church, 1897 W. Main Street. Peace & Justice Ministry conducts Vigils of Witness Against Capital Punishment at 6:00 pm on the day executions are scheduled in Texas.
McKinney - St. Gabriel the Archangel Catholic Community located at 110 St. Gabriel Way. We gather the last Saturday of the month between 6:00 to 6:30 to pray for those men/women scheduled to be executed in the next month and to remember the victims, their families, and all lives touched, including us as a society.
San Antonio (Site 1) - Archdiocese of San Antonio, in the St. Joseph Chapel at the Chancery, 2718 W. Woodlawn Ave. (1 mile east of Bandera Rd.) at 11:30 a.m. on the day of execution. Broadcast on Catholic Television of San Antonio (Time-Warner cable channel 15) at 12:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. on the day of execution.
San Antonio (Site 2) - Main Plaza across from Bexar County Courthouse and San Fernando Cathedral - Noon
Spring - Prayer Vigil at 6 PM on evenings of executions at St Edward Catholic
Community, 2601 Spring Stuebner Rd for the murder victim, for family
and friends of the murder victim, the prison guards and correctional officers, for the family of the condemn man/woman, for the man/woman to be executed and to an end to the death penalty.

That filthy beast deserves to die. Funny how all accounts of their crime show that they were all boasting and having a good time while and after committing this heinous crime. Then they felt the need
to be disrespectful to the families in court. Now they are begging for their lives and ask for more mercy than they showed Elizabeth and Jennifer?? It is about time justice is served.

scottish, I think it is unacceptable to keep a man in prison for 14 years and then decide to excecute him withought the right to legal representation from his consul. I think his crime is horrendous but that does not give Texas the right to put this man to death. I find the thinking and arrogance of Texas to be scary. Where is the research that says the death penalty works. It only takes away the problem of exterminating one individual. What a short sighted and barbaric nation.

I am a very PROUD MEXICAN AMERICAN and also a VERY PROUD TEXAN. I feel with every ounce of my being that this man does NOT...REPEAT DOES NOT deserve to live any longer than he already had. He committed a horrible crime against two innocent girls. He has been on death row longer than those girls were on this earth. My tax dollars have maintained him long enough. Let him go have his day with the needle. In my opinion Texas should just stick the needle to all the worthless scum on Death Row right now. Come on Texas...lethal injections for all!!!

First of all of you are no body to say what should be done we are humans and just as humans we are to respect others lives. i do not agree with what jose has done but one thing for sure is that he is going to suffer for the rest of his life in hell in those burning flammes that will never go off. so all these comments really make no sence. and you have sence you would not be waisting your time writing stupid comments. we all get what we look for, so don't be to proud of yourself because alot of us are about the same or worst than him it's just that you have not been caught. all you should do is say GOD BLESS YOU JOSE AND I HOPE YOU FIND THE PEACE AND REST YOU NEED. GOD GAVE US LIVE AND TAKES IT AWAY WHEN HE FEELS IT'S TIME TOO.

What do you recommend that we do with him? I realize that I will pay taxes if he is dead or alive and that they won't go up or down. I do, however, hope that my hard earned money will not be wasted on a POS like him. Lily, I pity your belief in mythical monters and mythical places. Even if I did believe, you contradict yourself in your post. You first say that he will burn in hell, then at the end you ask for God to bless him and to give him rest and peace. Which is it?

Jose Medellin and five other thugs raped, sodomized and killed two innocent girls who were in the wrong place at the wrong time. They strangled both girls with a leather belt in which they pulled so hard, they broke a leather belt. To make sure that they were dead, they kicked the girls to make sure that they were dead. Jose Medellin then took a bracelet off the body of Elizabeth Pena saying "She won't need this anymore." laughing and giving the bracelet to a girl friend.
Second, Jose had legal counsel represent him in a court of law. Jose's statement that he told the Houston Police and Harris County Sheriffs that he was a Mexican national is an outright lie. Ask yourself, why didn't he tell his trial attorney?, why did he not speak up during the penalty phase?, and more importantly, why did he not present the information during the appeals process. He did not raise the item until the Mexican government raised the issue in 1997. Besides, as I write this, Jose has the cocktail coursing through his veins, and Satan is saying "Howdy!......Welcome to Hell!.
