TOPIC: Protect Yourself: Facts About Powers of Attorney and Joint Accounts to Keep Your Money Safe

DESCRIPTION: It’s your money—are you sure it will be managed in accordance with your wishes? Learn about powers of attorney and joint accounts so you can make decisions that work for you. Find out about financial abuse—an all-too-common experience of older adults—and learn how to prevent it or respond effectively if it happens to you or somebody you know.
This session will cover advance planning, risks and benefits of common financial planning instruments, and factors to consider when creating a power of attorney. Most importantly, the session will provide participants with a list of community resources to turn to for help in case of financial abuse.
The BC Centre for Elder Advocacy & Support is a provincial leader in the field of elder abuse prevention and education, dedicated to arming older adults with the knowledge and awareness needed to protect their rights.
