Project Green Hands, the ecological initiative of Isha Foundation, intends to plant 7,00,000 seedlings on a single day throughout Tamil Nadu. This massive tree planting program, to be implemented on 15 October 2006, is the first major step towards the Foundation's effort to plant 114 million trees over the next ten years.
Launched in September 2005 in the tsunami affected villages of Tamil Nadu, the project aims to restore lost ecological resources and increase the green cover of this state by 10% by the year 2014, through large scale planting of trees.
More than 2,00,000 people including 1,10,000 school students from 550 schools, NSS volunteers, Corporate employees and various NGOs and SHGs members from 26 districts of Tamil Nadu will participate in the plantation.
