Professional Series James David Christie, Organ: Celebrating the 30th Anniversary of the Fisk Organ, and the 50th Anniversary of C.B. Fisk Organ Builders May 7, 2011

Wellesley’s organ, built by the late Charles Brenton Fisk, is considered one of the three most important historic organs in America, and was designed specifically for the performance of north German organ music of the 17th century. To celebrate this magnificent instrument’s 30 years at the college and C.B. Fisk Organ Builder’s 50th anniversary as a company, Wellesley performance faculty member James David Christie will present a program, “In Praise of Sweelinck, the Orpheus of Amsterdam.” Acclaimed as one of the finest organists of his generation, Christie has performed throughout the United States, Canada, Europe, and Japan in solo concerts and with major symphony orchestras under such conductors as Ozawa, Masur, Tennstedt, Dutoit, Bernstein, Davis, Norrington, Pinnock, Parrott, and Hogwood.
