ProArteDanza opens a season of world premieres by top choreographers
Following four seasons of sold out houses and critical acclaim, ProArteDanza Artistic Director Roberto Campanella brings the company’s brand of explosive and athletic contemporary dance back to the Premiere Dance Theatre, Harbourfront Centre from October 8-11th.
The Globe and Mail has said that ProArteDanza is "Dance that sizzles with excitement while challenging the intellect with substance." The Toronto Star has called the company “awe inspiring physicality”.
The program will feature three world premieres by three choreographers acclaimed both abroad and in Toronto. ProArteDanza Associate Director, choreographer Robert Glumbek, premieres his new one act work, Re-Collections, danced by an all male cast that explores his experiences growing up in a boarding school at the National Ballet of Poland. Glumbek was recently honoured with the prestigious Clifford E. Lee Choreography Award and the K.M Hunter Artists Award. Emily Molnar, who Maclean’s Magazine named as one of Canada's new generation of "ballet sensations" will premiere her newest work, featuring an original score by Montreal based composers Larsen Lupin. Kevin O’Day, Artistic Director of the acclaimed Mannheim Ballet in Germany, will premiere a duet danced by Glumbek and Molnar.
ProArteDanza brings together the highest level of dance artists from the worlds of classical ballet and contemporary dance. Founded by former National Ballet of Canada dancer Roberto Campanella in 2004, the company has emerged as a force both nationally and internationally.
Dancers performing in the season include the best of both the contemporary and classical traditions including Robert Glumbek, Emily Molnar, Louis Laberge-Côté, Brendan Wyatt, Johanna Bergfelt, Kate Holden, Ryan Lee, Julie Pecard, Gilbert Small, Rena Narumi, Jeremy Nasmith, and Michelle Cheung.
