Tuesday, November 18, Kennedy Center Terrace Theater
The Grammy-nominated ARC, the ensemble-in-residence of Canada’s Royal Conservatory of Music, explores mysterious, passionate testimonials composed after the First and Second World Wars. Discover two works by the enigmatic Polish-Jewish master Mieczslaw Weinberg, who has been called “one of the twentieth century’s most powerful and prolific composers, and one of its least well known.” These masterpieces will be paired with Szymon Laks’ haunting Passacaille, composed in Paris shortly after his liberation from Auschwitz. The program also includes Prokofiev’s classic Overture on Hebrew Themes, one of the most famous pieces of Jewish music to emerge from the pen of a non-Jewish composer.
Presented by Pro Musica Hebraica, a new Washington organization presenting lost and neglected masterpieces of Jewish classical music.
For tickets, please call the Kennedy Center Box Office (202-467-4600) or order online at the Kennedy Center.
