Program:
Works by James Primosch, Salvatore Sciarrino and Martin Bresnick; World Premieres by Augusta Read Thomas and Bernard Rands
"The Prism Quartet's members -- Tim Ries, Michael Whitcombe, Matthew Levy, and Taimur Sullivan -- avoid the effete cliches of the classical saxophone. They play with grit, brio, and take-no-prisoners accuracy." (Detroit Free Press)
Hailed for their flawless, expressive style and accessible sound, the Prism Quartet joins PCMS for an evening of works by James Primosch, Salvatore Sciarrino, and Martin Bresnick, as well as for world premieres by Augusta Read Thomas and Bernard Rands . "The performers moved effortlessly through styles," stated The Philadelphia Inquirer of a past performance. "The music was lighthearted, pulsing, and wittily colored."
The Prism Quartet is widely recognized as one of America's foremost chamber ensembles, introducing the saxophone as an important addition to the concert experience through a unique blend of personality and solid technique. Chosen by Musical America as Outstanding Young Artists and winners of the Chamber Music America/ASCAP Award for Adventurous Programming and the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition, PRISM has performed on Entertainment Tonight, National Public Radio, and in Alice Tully Hall with the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center.
