Printers’ Ball 2010, a public celebration of literary and print culture that annually attracts thousands of devotees of the printed word, will take place July 30 on the Columbia College Chicago campus at 1104 S. Wabash. Founded in 2005 by Poetry magazine and other independent Chicago literary organizations, Printers’ Ball 2010 will feature a multitude of magazines, books, broadsides, and other takeaways and will showcase live readings, music and performances as well as a variety of demonstrations of letterpress, offset, silk-screening, rubber-stamping and paper-making.
This marks the first year that the Printers’ Ball will host electronic publications. To highlight the theme, “Print <3 Digital,” the event and related projects will demonstrate how time-honored print techniques and digital media can often be a surprising match. More than 200 local, national, and international literary organizations are now involved in the annual event.
Printers’ Ball 2010 is co-produced by The Poetry Foundation, Poetry magazine, Columbia College Chicago’s Center for Book & Paper Arts and the college’s Student Affairs Office. Supporters, in addition to Columbia College Chicago, include Chicago Amplified and Flavorpill.
