Poetry has been a feature of life at this university for almost as long as the university has had life. Philip Freneau was a member of the class of 1771, while Aaron Burr of the class of 1772 was almost as ready with a pastoral as a pistol.
We're delighted to be able to welcome back some more recent graduates of our world-renowned Creative Writing Program, which this year celebrates the 70th anniversary of its founding in 1939. Galway Kinnell '39, Sally Van Doren '84 and Troy Jollimore *99 are joined by some of the very finest poets now at work in the US and beyond.
The visiting poets this year are Durs Grünbein of Germany, Michael Hofmann of the UK and Seamus Heaney of Ireland. American poets taking part are John Ashbery, Tina Chang, Lucille Clifton, Michael Dickman, Matthea Harvey, Naomi Shihab Nye, Gerald Stern, Ellen Doré Watson, and Kevin Young.
The events are free, but registration is required.
