WCMA's collection of about 400 works by the artist-brothers Maurice and Charles Prendergast is the largest in any museum, including watercolors, oils and sketchbooks by Maurice and frames created by Charles. The museum's Prendergast holdings and archives of documents relating to the lives and careers of the brothers make WCMA a center for scholarship on the Prendergasts and their contemporaries. Through the extraordinary generosity of Charles' widow, Eugenie Van Kemmel Prendergast (1895-1994), WCMA has been the recipient of Prendergast works of art, archival materials and funding to pursue relevant research and educational programs.
