Gustav Mahler’s breathtaking Der Abschied (The Farewell) from Das Lied von der Erde is set in the context of the traditional Chinese music and poetry that inspired it. The program is complemented by the premiere of a work, commissioned by the Clarice Smith Center, by Chinese-American composer Zhou Long.
