Giving Voice Productions presents:
Power to Pleasing: The Sex Lives of Teenage Girls
Conceived/Written/Performed by: Christa Ray, Liz Stanton, Bethany Jean Urban
A theatrical performance staged in the Ladies Bathroom at the Dairy Center for the Arts.
Power to Pleasing: The Sex Lives of Teenage Girls has been called "necessary theater." Why do girls often go from a place of power to one where pleasing their friends and the opposite sex is paramount? The show holds up a mirror to contemporary issues affecting teenage girls in a unique, creative style of site-specific theater where the audience is literally a part of the event in the intimacy of the Women's bathroom.
The play was initially developed at Naropa University under the guidance of Pulitzer Prize–winning playwright Moisés Kaufman and Leigh Fondakowski, head writer of The Laramie Project. Based on oral histories from teenage girls and on real events, the play is designed to incite discussion and is followed by a talk back with the artists where audience members can question the material and share resources in a community circle.
"If every single adolescent could see it, they’d all be better off."-- Orlando Sentinel
