1218 Cartwright St., Granville Island
Vancouver, British Columbia V6H3R

The Powell Street Festival Society celebrates its 30th anniversary with a gala event on July 20th, 2006 at Performance Works, an intimate and inviting open space located in the heart of Granville Island. In anticipation of festival weekend on August 5-6, this event will feature a cocktail-style tofu-themed dinner, a silent art auction, entertainment and launch of a PSF-produced cookbook.

Dinner will feature Japanese-influenced, izakaya-style dishes (each containing soy/tofu ingredients). Chefs will represent some of Vancouver's best restaurants, and will be provided in partnership with Sunrise Soya Foods, the tofu sponsor of the event.

The silent art auction will sell donated items by Asian Canadian artists, artisans and designers, as well as services provided by local businesses. All items will be promoted on this website prior to the event, giving extra exposure to the artists involved.

Entertainment will include performances by high profile artists (including taiko and dance) as well as by emerging musicians and DJs. The Master of Ceremonies will be a prominent local figure in the media/entertainment community. Honoured guests will receive commemorative gifts in recognition of their contributions to the Powell Street Festival and to the Japanese Canadian community in general.

The PSF cookbook, to be launched at this event, will feature original, unique and creative recipes with a connection to the Japanese Canadian community. The bulk of these recipes will result from a community callout. The book will also feature a selection of recipes from celebrity chefs at Japanese restaurants in Vancouver. The cookbook will serve as a fundraiser for the 30th festival, and for years to come.
