For our first meeting of 2011 Phoenix Objectivists will listen to lectures pertaining to a particular subject of interest to Objectivists: "postmodernism".
Postmodernism is an intellectual movement that has filtered into universities across the Western world and has had a major impact in the study of the sciences, philosophy, and humanities.
The first lecture we will listen to will be a pre-recorded one given by Rockford College philosophy professor Dr. Stephen Hicks at an Atlas Society conference in 2004 who has written a book titled "Explaining Postmodernism".
In his speech, Dr. Hicks will trace postmodernism from its roots in Rousseau and Kant through its current adherents, such as Foucault and Rorty.
Running time for the lecture is approximately 80 minutes and will include Q&A by the audience. After we finish listening to Dr. Hicks's speech we will discuss the issues he brings up.
**NOTE: Attendees to this event must buy something to eat or drink from the restaurant menu.
