For thirteen years, the iconic painting Portrait of Wally by Egon Schiele was locked up in New York, caught in a battle between the Leopold Museum of Vienna and the Jewish family from whom the Nazis had stolen the painting in 1939. This in-depth documentary by Andrew Shea traces the history of this image from its beginnings as a gift from the painter to his beloved mistress, to its theft from a Jewish art dealer, to its surprise reappearance in the Museum of Modern Art of New York. (2012, 90 min. No MPAA rating.)
