Conductor Graydon Beeks leads the Pomona College Band and guest soloist Stephen Klein, tuba in two programs, Friday, Nov. 16 and Sunday, Nov. 18 featuring the music of Bolcom, Dickow, Ellerby, Persichetti, Sousa and others. Former tuba soloist with the Air Force Band of the Golden West, Klein has performed on many television and movie scores as well as in concert with Frank Sinatra, Mel Tormé, the all three of the Three Tenors, and with John Williams at the opening ceremonies for the 1984 Olympics. An active composer and arranger, he has had several pieces premiered by the Pomona College Band. Klein is a graduate of U.C. Berkeley, holds an M.A. from the Eastman School of Music, and did graduate work at USC where he studied with Tommy Johnson. Klein has been instructor of tuba and euphonium at Pomona College since 1980.
