Eighty-plus years stretch between the Hoover and the Obama presidencies. In that space of
time, we have seen extraordinary changes in every aspect of our lives, as well as changes in
the role of the first lady.

Join us as Mary Anne Borrelli examines the contributions that the presidents’ wives have made to the modern presidency, in campaigning and governing, in order to better understand these women, their influence and their authority.

Mary Anne Borrelli is Professor of Government at Connecticut College specializing in Women and United States Politics.
