Sublime With Rome, the re-branded version of 90's hit makers Sublime, formed in 2009 by bassist Eric Wilson and drummer Bud Gaugh of Sublime, with Rome Ramirez taking the place of Bradley Nowell, who died in 1996. Gaugh left the band in December 2011. Veteran drummer Josh Freese has been sitting in on recent tour dates.
The first big show as Sublime with Rome came in October 2009 at Cypress Hill's annual Smokeout Festival, performing in front of 20,000 people. A sold-out tour in March 2012 followed with spontaneous sing-alongs and mosh-pits at every stop. That fall, Sublime with Rome entered the studio to begin recording their debut album. The result was Yours Truly, released in Summer of 2011. Songs like first single "Panic" (a Top 5 Modern Rock hit), "Take It Or Leave," and "You Better Listen" are reminiscent of vintage Sublime, while songs like "Lover's Rock" and "Murdera" pick up on the reggae dancehall style the band had begun exploring in 1996.
With the release of Yours Truly, Sublime with Rome spent the rest of the year touring the world and treating fans to both new songs as well as Sublime favorites that many never had a chance to hear live. Bringing things full circle, the band’s first performance of 2012 was at this year’s Smokeout Festival, joined by celebrated drummer and longtime friend Josh Freese. And to make up for lost time, the trio plans to stay out on the road as long as they can.
Bone Thugs-N-Harmony is an American hip hop group from the Glenville section of Cleveland, Ohio. They are best known for their fast-paced, aggressive rapping style and harmonizing vocals. The group was mainly produced by Los Angeles producer, DJ U-Neek. In 1997, the group was awarded the GRAMMY Award for Best Rap Performance with their song "Tha Crossroads" from their E 1999 Eternal album. Since its conception in 1993, the group has been honored with numerous other awards, have sold over 30 million records worldwide and are the originators of "Thuggish Ruggish Bone" Harmonization. Bone Thugs-N-Harmony also collaborated with Eazy-E, 2Pac, Big Pun, and The Notorious B.I.G., being the only artists to work with each of them while they were still alive.
The group is reuniting for the first time in years and have announced the release of their newest album Art of War III, featuring all five original group members: Krazie Bone, Bizzy Bone, Wish Bone, Flesh-N-Bone and Layzie Bone. The album, which is being released through Seven Arts Entertainment, is due in stores on November 27.
Groundation is an American roots Reggae band from Sonoma County in Northern California. Formed in the fall of 1998 by Harrison Stafford, Marcus Urani, and Ryan Newman, Groundation began on the campus of Sonoma State University's Jazz Program. (Between 1999 and 2001, Harrison Stafford taught the first course on the History of Reggae Music at Sonoma State University). In 1999, Stafford teamed up with Kris Dilbeck to found Young Tree Records and release Groundation's debut album of the same name.
The 9-piece band creates an altogether new reggae sound, featuring swirling, jazz/funk inspired horns, stout Latin and African based poly-rhythmics, and soulful harmony vocals. Their concerts utilize live improvisation, in classic jazz fashion, and are renowned for their high energy, communion-type atmosphere. Having gained international notoriety for their progressive fusion style, Groundation regularly plays at major international festivals like Summerjam. In march 2012, the band released the new album Building An Ark.
Formed in 1997 Hawaii's own Ooklah The Moc has made an international name for themselves, touring with artists such as Gregory Isaacs, Slightly Stoopid, Michael Rose, and many of Bob Marley's family just to name a few. The group has released four albums to date including Ites Massive, Rearrange Your Positive, Struggling Soldier and Vaults.
Paula Fuga and her longtime musical partner, singer-guitarist Mike Love's unique sound and vision stand out. The combination of her voice and lyrics with music rooted in Hawaiian folk tradition, reggae, world and Polynesian sounds have brought international attention since the release of her first album, Lilikoi, in 2006. More recently Fuga has opened Jack Johnson’s stateside tours, and he and Ziggy Marley sang on her most recent recording: Johnson dueted on the hit “Country Road,” and Marley appeared on a new arrangement of his father Bob Marley’s “High Tide or Low Tide.” Fuga’s latest recording, “Misery’s End,” has received rave reviews, and the title song is one of the highlights of her current concert.
