Point Blank - ACMI Cinemas July 13, 2007

In this singularly eccentric and haunting crime drama, a veteran San Francisco thief (Lee Marvin, at whose temple we regularly worship) is double-crossed and left for dead. He returns to exact revenge on his wife (Angie Dickinson) and mob-connected partner.

Director John Boorman (Deliverance) displays an extravagant visual sensibility in this brooding, textured film that's both violent and strangely elegant.

One of the definitive films to emerge from Hollywood in the late sixties, Point Blank is a hard-nosed adaptation of Richard Stark's The Hunter, owing much to European influences - most notably Godard's Alphaville.
