Event Description:
Dear Family! I bring you greetings on behalf of Poetry, Pages and Scribes. We are a monthly poetry series here at the Southfield Public Library the first Thursday of the month from 6.-8 p.m. We are cordially inviting you to a very special Poetry, Pages and Scribes in October. On October 2, 2008 our series is hosting “A Celebration of the Feminine Form,” a silent art auction in addition to our regularly scheduled poetry reading to benefit the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute. We will dedicate words and thoughts, in addition to a group showing of paintings and photography to raise awareness and funds for the cure. October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women in the United States, other than skin cancer. It is the second leading cause of cancer death in women, after lung cancer. White women have a higher incidence of breast cancer than African American women after age 40. African American women have a higher incidence rate before age 40 and are more likely to die from breast cancer at every age., Please come out join us in the fight and listen and share the stories of both family members and survivors of breast cancer the first Thursday of the month. Log on to www.poetrypagescribes.com or www.karmanos.org for information about this event. See you October 2! Sincerely, Ber-Henda, Host of Poetry, Pages and Scribes
