Join poets Kai Hoffman-Krull and Jane MacNeil as they read in celebration of National Poetry Month. As a fundraiser for L'Arche, Kai's new chapbook will be for sale as will crafts and plants from the L'Arche Tacoma Farm. L'Arche Tacoma Hope is a community of people with a mission to create and sell quality products, support purposeful work for people with developmental disabilities, and foster a spirit of caring for the land and people. L'Arche Tacoma maintains four homes and a Farm & Gardens.
Kai Hoffman-Krull is a Washington native, and has worked in L’Arche homes in Tacoma, Uganda, and Seattle. His chapbook, Beginning to Wake, was published last year from Twin Streams Press. His poetry has recently appeared in such literary journals as Gander Press, Frostwriting, The Oak Bend Review, Silenced Press, and The Drift Wood Review. He was the recipient of the 2008 Rising Star Award from the Oregon based literary organization Nature of Words. Kai’s poetry focuses on the crossover between the natural and human worlds, and on his time living in L’Arche.
Jane MacNeil has been working at L’Arche, a community of people with and without developmental disabilities, for over 25 years. A native of Nova Scotia, Jane has lived in L’Arche homes in Canada and the United States. During her years in community she has formed intimate relationships that have become a foundation for her poetry. Jane’s writing is an examination of tenderness and loss, a journey into the gifts of vulnerability, and the common threads that run through us all.
