Visual poet: David D’Agostino
Musical composer: Luke Leavitt
Atlanta Poets Group: Jeff Dahlgren, Zac Denton, John Lowther, Mark Prejsnar, James Sanders, John Selvidge
Artist David D’Agostino, musician Luke Leavitt, and the Atlanta Poets Group (APG) collaborate to perform an interrogation of our currently empty galleries. Challenging the idea that the gallery is only a repository for the visual, these artists/writers will use photographs of the just-closed Substitute Teacher exhibition to prompt transgressive and non-traditional poetic forms that are spoken by multiple performers. The participants will apply some of the creative principles of the influential Fluxus artist and poet Dick Higgins, known for his compressions of language, image, and space.
David D’Agostino is a current participant in the Studio Artist Program at the Atlanta Contemporary Art Center.
Since 1997, the Atlanta Poets Group has been committed to perpetrating disjunctive and disruptive linguistic practices. The members meet in salon-like fashion on Wednesday evenings and give semi-regular public performances around the Atlanta area.
