Topic 1: Six Sigma for organizational excellence
'In today's competitive business environment, a growing number of organizations are beginning to realize the full implications of Six Sigma in accelerating corporate strategy and achieving organizational excellence. 'As a methodology devised to manage process variations that cause defects and to systematically work towards eliminating those defects, the Six Sigma Approach plays a key role as it defines performance, reliability and value of an organization. Therefore, it is vital for organizations to understand the key ingredients of successful six sigma implementations.'
India has realized global competition, it is important that corporate should understand the implications of organizational efficiency and quality as a key differentiator on their product and service proposition. Six Sigma approach was pioneered by Bill Smith, a former Vice President and Senior Quality Assurance Manager for the Land Mobile Products Sector of Motorola in 1986. Motorola has reportedly saved over US$ 17 billion by implementing Six Sigma till date. The Six Sigma approach gained wide acceptance after GE, one of the early adopters achieved benefits of US$ 300 million, during first year of its application. Major corporations such as Ford, Microsoft, Caterpillar, Raytheon, Siemens, Merrill Lynch and 3M among many others are reported to have benefited from implementing Six Sigma at various levels. Six Sigma can be used in manufacturing, service and process industry.
The 45 minutes lecture will cover aspects of Six Sigma centered themes of Competitiveness, Reality, Tools and roadmap.
Speaker 1: Dr. Abhay Kulkarni
Dr. Kulkarni is having Doctorate in "Role of six Sigma, as a process improvement methodology in industry" and Masters degree in Management science from University of Pune. He has Engineering Degree with Distinction from College Of Engineering Pune.
Dr. Kulkarni has Twenty Two years rich industrial experience in engineering and Quality:
· Certified six sigma Black Belt
· BU coordinator for TPM activities
· Contributed in Five S activities for visual Workplace Management
· Worked in Engineering and quality department of MNC.
He is Certified and trained LRQA lead auditor and conducts Coaching and mentoring academic society in:
· Soft skills for MBA and MCA
· Management Subject for Masters Degree professionals
· Chairmen of management subjects in University of Pune.
Topic 2: Right to Information
Right to Information is an effective tool with citizens to keep check on government/semi- government workings; spending. Transparency and accountability in governance is the crux of this act and has already started producing results by way of reduction in corruption. Each & Every citizen needs to know about effectively using this tool to solve his own as well as community issues. The lecture with help of PowerPoint presentation and live cases is aimed at this.
Speaker 2: Mr. Vivek Velankar
Vivek Velankar is B.E. (C.O.E.P.); M.B.A.; has 15 years of industry experience in India & USA. He has worked in top industrial houses in India like Bajaj Auto , Philips India , Videocon, Finolex cables etc.; and worked as Manager in one of the world's largest consulting Firm Ernst & Young LLP;USA . Since 2000 has established his own SOFTWARE FIRM (ARV Infotech); and is mainly in IT Recruiting. Vivek was Member of board of studies for Management in Pune University for two years. He is visiting and guest faculty at various management Institutes.
Other than Professional experience Vivek has following Social credentials.
· Founder member of Naturist organization "Nisargsevak". Has been actively working for creating environmental awareness in Youth & School Children.
· Member of Environment committee Of MCCIA
· Successfully used right to Information act on various social issues; Filed more than 100 RTI Applications; given more than 150 lectures on RTI Awareness. National Trainer on RTI and done several workshops for government officials across the country on RTI through YASHADA.
· Founder president of NGO named "Sajag Nagrik Manch." The NGO works for spreading awareness about Right to Information. Manch also initiates campaigns on social issues.
Topic 3: Trends in Project Management & On-Target updates
Mr. Girish Kelkar, President of PMI Pune Chapter will present the inputs about growth of Project Management as a profession and strategic competency in recent years. Project Management field has expanded significantly in last few years with the increase in magnitude and complixity of various projects. The multi-location teams, triple constraints, customer focus and expectations to produce higher quality product in less cost is demanding new perspective and management strategies and hence understanding the journey so far and trends of future will definitely help all the attendees to prepare themselves for a better career.
PMI Pune-Deccan India Chapter is organizing "OnTarget 2009" National Conference on Project Management on 11th (Academic track) & 18th (Professional track) January 2009.
