Topic 1: Project Governance

Speaker 1: Sameer Soman

Sameer is working with various IT organizations in India and outside for past 20 years. For last 10+ years, he has managed large and complex projects; and was part of senior management of various IT organizations (like Tech Mahindra, Amdocs, vMoksha). His specific technology interests have been in Managed Services, BI/DW and CRM areas. He has handled various general management roles including setting up and heading a Greenfield ODC for US based IT company. In addition to IT services, He is also passionate about contributing to the betterment of Education field.

Project Governance is a key element in the success of any large scale IT project. Project managers and key stakeholders need to pay close attention to having proper governance mechanism to ensure that project meets its objectives. But often, in many organizations, Project Governance mechanisms are not designed correctly and it leads to sub-optimal project execution and at times project failure. Based on the practical experience from various IT projects, we will try to look into some elements that lead to incorrect implementation of project governance structures; and equally importantly, look at few key elements to having successful project governance structures.

Topic 2 : Agile Development Methodology

Speaker 2: Vinayak Joglekar

Vinayak is a believer in Agile Development Methodology. He has practiced agile for more than five years in his capacity of CTO and Founder of an Outsourced Product Development company called Synerzip. He has successfully implemented scrum, user stories, TDD and CI in Synerzip. He has conducted talks and webinars in the US on topics such as Fixed Bid projects using Agile. He was a presenter at the Agile International Conference held in Toronto in the year 2008. He has more than 25 years of software development experience. He graduated in Mechanical Engineering from IIT/Bombay and did his post graduation in management from IIM Calcutta.



He will discuss the evolution of agile development and the four principals spelt out in the “Agile Manifesto” which values

1) Requirements change over requirements freeze.

2) People over processes.

3) Collaboration over contracts.

4) Working code over prolific documents

He will cover techniques such as Scrum, XP, user stories, Agile estimation and planning, Test Driven Development, Continuous integration etc. Finally he will discuss the challenges faced while implementing agile in a dual shore team and some ways of meeting those challenges.
