Plymouth Veterans Day 2008 - 27 to 29 June
“A celebration of the service by veterans to the life of the nation.”
Fri 27 (0930-1730) & Sat 28 (0900-1600) Jun, Veterans Centre, Plymouth Guildhall. Free for the public to meet many of the organisations supporting veterans and their families. Formally opened by the Lord Mayor at 1000 on Fri 27 June, the National Veterans Day. Outside entertainment by young people. On the day, book a free coach tour of the Naval Base.
Fri 27 Jun-1100. A Service for National Veterans Day, St Andrew’s Church, Plymouth. Everyone welcome. Retiring collection in aid of Combat Stress, the Ex-Services Mental Welfare Society.
Sat 28 Jun-2000. Veterans Day Concert in St Andrew’s Church by the Band of the Royal Air Force Association. Adults £3, children under 16 free. Pay at the door.
Sun 29 Jun-All Day. On Plymouth Hoe, a salute to the Armed Forces and Veterans who served in the Royal Navy, the Army, the Royal Air Force and the Merchant Navy. Free to the public, open at 1030. Displays, exhibitions, aircraft, warships in Plymouth Sound. Music by the Band of the Rifles and the City of Plymouth Pipe Band. Meet veterans who continue to serve the community in the Emergency Services and be entertained by our young people. All welcome to join with many senior guests in the unique RAF and Allied Air Forces Monument Service at 1130. Meet members of the Armed services and the Reserves and complete the day by attending the Veterans Day Tattoo and Review of Veterans starting at 1630.
