Artist Joyce Martin creates an artificial environment, one that mimics nature with an abundance of brightly colored organic shapes heaped willy-nilly on the floor like cast off plant carcasses, reminiscent of Dr. Seuss storybooks. Playful by design, the exhibit has a serious undertone. Unique abstractions of aquatic life shape this installation that builds and reflects on the problems we are facing in our oceans today. Concerned by reports of increasingly large gyrating islands of plastic waste, Martin challenged her-self to reuse those materials that came her way while continuing to study the issue.
