The Alliance Française de Minneapolis/St. Paul announces the opening of “Planète Femmes,” or, “Planet Women,” photo exhibit, on September 8th at our fall Open House event. This exhibit of 42 photographs, selected from over 1,000 submissions from 200 Alliance Française chapters throughout the world, was originally shown at the Fondation Alliance Française in Paris in the spring of 2011.
Amateur photographers from 80 countries submitted two photographs that best represented the theme of the contest, which is meant to celebrate the diversity, beauty, and strength of women around the world. A jury made up of six creative leaders including renowned French fashion designer Agnes b., the Courrier International’s art director, Sophie-Anna Delhomme, and editorial director of Marie Claire magazine, Christine Leiritz, selected the 21 winning photographers. The jury also selected two grand finalists, Sam Lim of the Alliance Francaise of Penang in Malaysia, and Manuel Araya of the Alliance Francaise of Marcos Juarez in Argentina. This exhibit, which will run through October, will be on display in the Grande Salle of the Alliance Française building and is generously sponsored by West Photo in Minneapolis.
The Fondation Alliance Française was created in 2008 and aims to develop the worldwide network of Alliances Françaises, local organizations that promote French and Francophone language and culture through education and cultural events. The Alliance Francaise de Minneapolis/St. Paul is the metropolitan area’s only French cultural center.
