•This year marks the 10th anniversary of Canada’s premiere environmental film festival. The Planet in Focus International Environmental Film & Video Festival runs October 21 through October 25 at various venues in Toronto and showcases over 85 of the world’s best environmental films from 25 different countries.
•The festival’s Spotlight Program this year is Fast Forward Toward a 20/20 Vision which looks ahead to the next decade of environmental challenges, innovations and debates.
•A unique spectrum of Chinese environmental films will be presented and, as well, Planet in Focus has partnered with the Voices Forward and International Disaspora Festivals to collaborate on a Land & Conflict series.
•The Opening Night Gala at the Royal Cinema features the Toronto premiere of Finding Farley, a wonderful film that retraces the literary footsteps of celebrated author Farley Mowat in the Canadian landscape.
•Also at the Opening Night Gala, Planet in Focus presents champion of universal water rights Maude Barlow with the 2009 Planet in Focus International Eco Hero Award, while ZENN car developer Ian Clifford is presented the Canadian Eco Hero Award.
•A free children’s program at The Bata Shoe Museum on Saturday, October 24.
•The Closing Night Awards Gala includes the screening of Earth Keepers, a film about contemporary activism, and the presentation of the Industry and Media Eco Hero Award to CBC Television’s flagship program The Nature of Things with David Suzuki.
