A lecture by Pierre Birnbaum, one of France's most eminent political sociologists and a widely recognized authority on the political history of Jews in France. He has been a visiting professor at the University of Chicago, NYU, The New School for Social Research, Indiana University, Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Oxford, Edinburgh, Florence, Rome, Geneva, and Bogota Universities. Author or co-author of seventeen books, including Anti-Semitism in France and Paths of Emancipation, as well as numerous articles, he is Professor of History at the Sorbonne and Columbia University.
