Light Leaks 2007
During the 1960's an inexpensive plastic camera was introduced into the market so students, children, and mums and dads could more affordably record their holidays, loved ones and special moments in their lives.
These old style film cameras have a plastic fixed focal length lens, one or two exposure settings and require manual operation such as advancing the film by hand!
By the year 2000 the digital revolution saturated the market with bits, bites, and megabytes, boasting clarity, sharpness, excellent colour reproduction and better image quality.
Today the simple to operate plastic camera's are still popular amongst professional photographers and enthusiasts. They offer a unique look to photographs, such as vignetting (gradual darkening of the edges), light leaks and soft focus. The natural artefacts of these low quality cameras are what makes them so popular amongst art photographers and in some circumstances are also used for commercial photographic purposes.
Light Leaks is an annual exhibition of photographs from plastic cameras to homemade pinhole cameras.
