The elegance and attractiveness of the black and white photograph is eternal. This is a class for beginners who want to learn what goes into making a photograph distinct and compelling utilizing the traditional black and white darkroom process. Students will use their 35mm film cameras and create images focusing on techniques of proper exposure, principles of composition, understanding of lighting, and use of subject matter. Emphasis in this class is on the development of the student's self-expression. Traditional chemical process and darkroom printing will be used to create a portfolio of printed images. Previous knowledge of photography is not required. This class will run for eight, three hour sessions. Class time will be split between lecture, shooting, lab time, and critique. Students will also be required to frequently shoot assignments after class for later discussion.
