In this ten-week course, beginners are introduced to photography as a unique way to visualize and engage the world around them. Students attain a basic introduction to photography, from operating a 35mm manual camera to black-and-white darkroom practices. Topics will include techniques for proper exposure, principles of composition, and understanding lighting. Film processing and printing will be emphasized throughout the course.
While students will learn technical skills, they are also encouraged to explore the aesthetics of photographic expression through assignments and slide lectures on contemporary and historical work.
In addition to class sessions, students are strongly encouraged to attend optional shooting trips as well as museum and gallery visits.
