This workshop is designed as a logical progression from our basic introductory camera classes to a full-weekend immersion and is suitable for any intermediate photographer eager to use color and composition as creative forces. Beyond a mere describer-of-reality, color can be an emotion or mood, color can be graphic punch, color can be muted and serene, color can be abstraction, color can be a subject-unto-itself.
In tandem with our exploration of expressive color, composition will be fused into the process. Learning the basics of composition (leading lines, rules of space, harmony, lines of sight) will aid your use of color and make your photographs grow in design, intent, expression. A small red ball bouncing along a giant yellow wall can be deafening!
The class will be a fun crash-course and will get you excited about rethinking your approach. We will start with exercises in toning down your colors by shooting 1, 2, and 3-color photos. As we progress, you will learn about the color wheel and how to utilize it. There will be plenty of exercises and mini-shooting assignments to start your thinking about color and composition. By the end of the weekend, each student will have a small set of prints demonstrating new ideas and vision.
