The end of certainty or the advent of the age of doubt are certainly making headlines (again), in philosophy as well as the physical sciences. But what are the philosophical foundations of these kinds of claims? Is everything open to doubt (again)? We shall find out with reference to a number of key thinkers from the ancient skeptics, Socrates and Aristotle to Montaigne, Descartes, Kant, Nietzsche, Wittgenstein, Russell and Ayer, among others.
