Join Kularts for this double-bill of master musicians, featuring the staged production of Florante Aguilar’s new work, ASWANG, and music by Philippine Tribal Leader Datu ‘Waway’ Linsahay Saway, of the Talaandig peoples. Both formally-educated artists have returned to their roots, reviving musical traditions with an infusion of their own fresh creativity. Saway shares and expands on traditions from the Talaandig tribe as a modern composer, singer, instrument maker, and visual artist. Composer Florante Aguilar creates ASWANG-A Tagalog Song Cycle, a music suite exploring the fantastic creatures of Pilipino legends and ghost stories by re-imagining traditional Pilipino musical forms of the harana (romantic serenade) and kundiman (courtship songs of intense longing) into a contemporary framework. Featuring performances by: Chus Alonso (flute), Sage Baggott (percussion) and Greg Kehret (double bass) and vocalists: Giovanni Ortega, Leon Palad, Bryan Pangilinan, and Kristine Sinajon
