A program masterpieces from the early Romantic period: Felix Mendelssohn's dynamic Symphony No. 1, composed when he was just 15, which brought the young prodigy great notoriety throughout Europe; Johann Nepomuk Hummel's expressive Concerto for Keyed Trumpet played by the Italian virtuoso Gabriele Cassone; and the evocative Symphony No. 2 of Louis Spohr who was acclaimed by his colleagues to be on par with Beethoven but has been lost to time.
